Palazzo Capris di Cigliè, in the very heart of Turin, is one stylish address. The style throughout is a contemporary less-is-more, geometric and functional but snug with parquet floors, a warm beige/brown colour scheme and original wooden ceilings and doors in some of the spaces. Plus perfect lighting. And some of the most comfortable bedding you’ll ever try. All other mod cons are present and correct, and extra five-star services can generally be arranged.

It has just five very spacious rooms with a common living area, plus a couple of superbly-equipped, self-contained studio apartments. Quite literally minutes on foot from Turin’s gracious Baroque thoroughfares, many of its opulent sights, splendid museums and unparallelled shopping, restaurants and cafés, no city sounds penetrate Terres d’Aventure: it’s an urban retreat and you’ll sleep like a baby. If getting into the superb 17th-century palazzo using a door code and then into the establishment itself with a personalised keycode makes you feel a bit like a 007, Gianfabio is generally around at some time every day to dispense a welcome and excellent advice. His staff prepare and serve a hearty continental breakfast in the common room. And there’s a terrace, perfect for soaking up some sun or sipping a Roero Arneis as it goes down. Luci d’Artista 2015, by the way, Turin’s annual winter festival of art-in-lights, ran until January 10 2016.
